Bio: Milos is an English dokkalfa born in London to two alfa who had left their community to move into the wider world of humans. He had a happy childhood, but his parents were killed in a car accident when he was 13 and he was moved into a care home while a foster placement was found. However, with alfa as a minority and dokkalfa even more so, he didn't fit in and fled after two weeks. He was initially found and returned, but ran away again a few days later and this time was never caught.
He was homeless for several years, living initially in London and then, after a traumatic event when he was 15, began moving around Britain while engaging in questionable practices to help feed himself and keep himself alive.
At the age of 18 he met Robin, the owner of an alfa-specific boarding house in the Midlands who ran a somewhat less-than-legal courier business on the side. Robin took Milos in partially out of pity but struggled to deal with Milos's mood swings and nervous, violent reactions to physical contact, despite the effort Milos put into conquering these.
When he was 21 Robin, as his legal guardian — something Milos was not aware of at the time — arranged for the paperwork to pass Milos onto a secretive governmental organisation that performed genetic testing on their subjects. Milos was drugged and collected by Alex Jaska, a man he'd run into a few times before during work and, without his own permission, became only the second surviving elven bioweapon.
Faced with the choice of experimentation followed by termination or joining the agency, he chose the latter and — to his dismay — found himself partnered with Alex, a subjectively handsome, nominally charming, utterly callous Casanova of an agent who had a problem with alfa in general and Milos in particular.
Except it turned out the problem he had with Milos was perhaps, just as much, a problem with himself... Blackmailed into it, Milos began a relationship with Alex around six months after he started; a year later most people accepted that somehow, quite without either really realising it, they had become a couple.
Possibly because only Milos manages to put up with Alex's own awful short temper and partially because, without Milos quite understanding how, everything has somehow started to feel like home.

Only when he was in the process of wiping the result of James’s sudden contempt from his face with his jacket sleeve did he think to ask, “but why did you help me?”
Jaska’s eyes narrowed. Milos realised with an abrupt sinking feeling that for whatever reason, that was probably not a question the man wanted to hear. “I had my reasons, and you don’t need to know them. But be sure, I didn’t do it for you. I think you lot should just fuck off back to the forests or,” he looked Milos up and down with evident disdain, “wherever the hell you’re from.” “London.” “What?” “I’m from London.” He knew that normally he’d have taken umbrage at the tone—and not unreasonably, he thought: the man was obviously racist—but exhaustion was starting to seep through his body and the adrenaline that had done such a good job of powering him through the previous experience was ebbing away. “Nowhere exotic. Just... London.” The dark haired man stared at him like he’d finally taken leave of his senses and, perhaps realising that Milos was only waiting for him to say something, waved one hand in the direction of the winding alley. “Just go.” The alfa nodded. It would be a relief to get home. |
